Taryn Rose: Orthopaedic shoes with a difference
Well 2006 may have been a year for wardrobe malfunctions but at the recent Golden Globe Awards the glitterati were nearly reduced to walking down the red carpet bare foot after a truck full of Taryn Rose designer shoes was stolen. The haul was worth $50,000 and consisted of 120 pairs of shoes destined for minor celebrities. Most of the big names had the presence of mind to collect their shoes in advance. Taryn Rose has an unsual background as a shoe designer and was previously an orthopaedic surgeon who earned her medical degree from University of California School of Medicine in Los Angeles. She saw many patients with foot problems and thought it was time for shoes that were fashionable without being uncomfortable. In 1998 she created a range of luxury shoes that were both fashionable and functional. Tyran Rose’s collections use the most luxurious materials and the shoes are crafted by skilled artisans in Italy. There is approximately three hours of hand labor in each pair.
