Shoe Star: Shoe designer of the future
The shoe industry is in need of innovative designers and would be hopefuls are encouraged to demonstrate their talent thanks to an initiative between Footwear News, Nine West and the Fashion Institute of Technology.The Fashion Institute of Technology is a selective college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York (SUNY). The "Shoe Star" contest requires budding shoe designers from the senior students’ cohort, to compete a series of challenges including a ‘Red Carpet Challenge’ to design a red carpet shoe for a named celebrity. Contestants are expected to provide a shoe sample with sketches and a 150 word essay why they want to be a contestant. The winner will culminate in the naming of the next rising star in shoe design. The winner will be judged by the Footwear News editorial team based on their creativity and ability to show their level of professionalism. The Grand Prize winner will be announced at the Fashion Footwear Association of New York's (FFANY) tradeshow in June 2008. The first prize includes a one year contract as assistant designer Nine West Design Team, plus a feature story in Footwear News. Progress will be documented by Footwear News and Nine West will continuously upload video coverage of the challenges and blog postings from the contestants. Swarovski is a participating sponsor.
