Australia the Movie the flop: Australia the shoes a success

The Baz Lurhmann's epic, Australia may have flopped at the box office but Nichole Kidman's shoe wardrobe designed by the Ferragamo company is likely to impact on the fashion world for the coming seasons. To recreate the elegance of the 30s and 40s Nicole’s character, Lady Sarah Astley, needed a wide range of footwear from riding boots to wedge heels to sophisticated red velvet heeled evening sandals suitable for an aristocratic ball and the Ferragamo company dutifully obliged.

It is worth a mention at the Madrid premier of the move, Nichole wore her red soled Christian Louboutins.

Life does have its little twists however the fashion sandals of the 30s and 40s were the brainchild of Salvatore Ferragamo (originator of the shoe company) who worked in the movie business on many of the early biblical epics. He was singularly rsponsible for rediscovering the sandal designs od antiquity which he beautifully crafted into fashion shoes for movie stars. The same design styles are recreated by his grandson for the film.
