Z-Coil: Spring heels through limited outlets

The most eye-catching feature of the Z Coil shoe is a three-inch wide conical-coil steel spring in the heel. The spring, when completely compressed, reduces to about one-quarter inch high. According to the manufacturer compression, coupled with the absorption and energy return absorbs shock and reduces skeletal stress. The Z Coil shoes does not make you jump higher but instead dampens the shock on heel strike by approximately 50%. Combined with a in-shoe orthoses the Z Coil shoe proves a comfortable and functional shoe recommended for those who spend a lot of time on their feet, or for others who have back, knee or hip pain, and arthritis. The line of men’s and women’s styles includes running shoes, sandals and dress shoes. Steel-toed work shoes and boots are also available. According to the manufacturer the shoes are adjustable and can be custom fit but are only available through limited outlets.

I don't think I've ever heard of anything like this. It sounds like a good idea though. Interesting heels.
