Lady Gaga: You can leave your shoes at the door

Lady Gaga is a mentor on American Idol, but like Elvis “The Pelvis” Presley and the ban on his hip shaking on the small box, the diva’s shoes will not be shown.

According to a spokesperson for the program Gaga’s footgear was not camera friendly. Apparently she was not wearing “broadcast standard sensitive shoes.” The stand (excuse the terrible pun) taken by the program comes at a time when new heights in platforms, wedges, and stilettos have never been higher. The average heel height of sky high heels is six inches, more than double what it was the 1970s. In the past, chopines were platform shoes worn by affluent women in Italy. The height of the platforms rose until they were 24’ off the ground making it impossible to walk without aid of walking sticks or servants. It is common for the fashionista in the 17th century to be carried in sedan carriages from room to room. Mind you Lady Gaga has not been slow putting her ped egg to good use.
