Sketchers Shape Up for Girls: Animated ads cause parental concerns
Ads for the Skechers Shape-ups for Girls that claim the shoes allegedly help firm the legs and butts of women are causing alarm with parents worried over the message they may send to young girls when it comes to body image. Despite endorsements by celebrities like Kim Kardashian, parents remain unmoved by ads for a glittery pink youth version of the shoes for children. Concerns relate to young children being exposed to commercials that link being thin with being happy. In a cartoon advert slim girls are chased by lethargic boys dressed as hot dogs, cupcakes and ice cream.
