Quality seconds on Chinese eBay
Approximately 40 percent of all American clothing is imported from China, according to American Apparel & Footwear Association. However an estimated 5 per cent of the clothing produced in China never reaches the US. This is sold off at discounted prices from independent sellers on websites like Taobao.com and Chinese eBay. The practice is not condoned by foreign clients but goes on anyway. The sell offs are quality overruns or clothes made from extra fabric that has not been “confiscated” by the retailer. Quality seconds also make up a significant amount of the on-line goods. Clothing and footwear is priced according to the fabric, and not the brands.
