Blahnik and Patmos fishy sandals
Manolo Blahnik in colaboration with eco-designer, Marcia Patmos has produced a range of fashion sandals made out of Tilapia skin,. The shoes featured in the Marcia Patmos Spring Summer 2012. Talapia skin is a by-product of the food industry and is perfect material for small leather goods. The fashion designers are not the first to use fish skins whch have been incorporated into shoemaking for hundreds of years. In the past Icelanders wore fish skin shoes and when the sole wore out they boiled their shoes and ate them. Distance was measured by the number of fish skin shoes needed to cross the terrain.
