Shoe thrower in mortal peril
Rashid Shahbandi was arrested last month for throwing his shoe at Iranian president Manmoud Ahmadinejad during a speech. He has been in custody since the incident and there is a very strong possibility that he may receive the death penalty for his actions. Shahbandi, a textile worker who has recently lost his job and is baring the high financial burden of his son’s medical bills, became enraged when he heard Ahmadinejad boast about the great achievements of the government. Shahbandi is currently in custody and has already been tortured for the actions, and it is unclear whether he will ever have a trial.
