Another old boot from Maidstone

A 400 year old boot was found in the walls of a town house in Bank Street, Maidstone. According to experts the narrow square curved toe and small open sides is consistent with the style of shoe fashionable during the mid 17th century. The gentleman’s latchet tie shoe, was the height of fashion around the mid-1600s, and found during renovation work to a beauty salon. The second oldest shoe found in Maidstone is kept at Maidstone Museum and dates from 1740.
