School marginalises child for wearing foot orthoses
A young teenage girl who wears special shoes due to a foot condition (achilles tendonitis ) has been told by her school she will be taught in isolation if she continues to refuse to wear the 'correct' shoes. To accommodate her prescribed tendon supports and orthotic insoles the teenager wearsa pair of black and white trainers to school. Despite a medical note to explain the situation, the school remains adamant the 13-year-old she must wear regulation black school shoes. Her parents were told by a teacher that she would be in isolation until she wore the correct shoes.
