The Vans Custom Cultural program

The Vans Custom Cultural program raises money and awareness of the importance of art in high schools by running a national high school art competition . The project started in 2010 as a way to raise awareness for the importance of art in education. Students get to customize four pairs of blanks Vans shoes in four themes. These are art, music, action sports and local flavor. The Top Five finalists are flown to New York City for an exclusive final event where the winner will be selected. The grand prize winning school will receive a $50,000 prize for their art program and the chance for their shoes to be produced and sold in Vans' retail stores. The four runner up schools will also receive money for their art programs. Additionally, national retail partner Journeys will award a separate $10,000 prize to one of the final five schools with the best local flavor themed pair of shoes. Art teachers can register from January 2nd through to February 11th. Registration is limited to the first 1,500 schools.
