Shoe-shine boy Albert raises $200,000 for The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

For more than 30 years, Albert Lexie has roamed the corridors of The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, with a wide smile on his face and a tin of shoe wax in his hand. Since 1981, almost every Tuesday and Thursday since 1981he has beavered away shining shoes. Over the last thrity years, Lexie has helped raise $200,000 for the hospital's foundation. The hospital have subsequently bought Lexie a purple cart, which he now wheels around the hospital as he makes his rounds. The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Free Care Fund ensures all patients receive the outstanding medical care they need, regardless of their families' ability to pay.
