Pearl Izumi in the dog house
Gags about dead dogs are not the best way to sell running shoes as Pearl Izumi found out recently. As part of a marketing campaign for a new running shoe design, Project E:MOTION.
The company published an advert in Canadian Running Magazine that featured a dog lying motionless on a trail as its owner tried to resuscitate it i.e. runners in comfortable running shoes could run their dogs to death. After a tirade of complaints from dog lovers the ad was removed from the magazine and the company’s website. Later Pearl Izumi apologized on Facebook for any misundersting. Cosumerist also pointed to a video posted by the company in January about how to revive your dog if it's run itself nearly to death.
