Shoe survives Coventry Blitz

Staff at Coventry’s oldest shoe shop, Ager shoe shop in Corporation Street recently found a 1940s woman’s shoe hidden away in a cupboard. The battered brogue would appear to have survived the 1940 air raid which destroyed the firm’s former Smithford Street shop. The relic appears to have been moved with other salvaged old stock when the original shop was bombed in the blitz of the city. Within weeks of the bombing a new shop was established in Corporation Street where it currently stands. The shoe shows the scarring of fire damage and is partially melted.
