Killer Heels: The Art of the High Heel Shoe at Brooklyn Museum
Killer Heels: The Art of the High Heel Shoe will open at the Brooklyn Museum (Robert E. Blum Gallery, 1st Floor) on September 10th 2014. Exhibits cover hundreds of years of stacked footwear, starting with the platform shoes worn in sixteenth-century Italy and all the way through to the red soled Louboutins. Shoes on display will also include wedges, platforms, and "a number of artfully crafted shoes that defy categorization." Expect to find more than 160 shoes from designers like Manolo Blahnik, Salvatore Ferragamo, Zaha Hadid, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Vivienne Westwood. There will also be six short films, created especially for the museum, that have been inspired by the shoe. The filmmakers are Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh, Zach Gold, Steven Klein, Nick Knight, Marilyn Minter, and Rashaad Newsome. A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition. The exhibition runs until February 15th 2015.
