Your shoes are too small and your feet's too big

Research from the UK College of Podiatry has shown the British public are increasingly wearing the wrong shoes after the average foot grew two sizes since the 1970s. Experts found a typical woman now measures a size six rather than the size four (the average of 40 years ago). The perception smaller is more attractive may explain why women in the survey refuse to match shoe volume with the actual size of their feet. This is also despite more retailers stocking larger and wider fitting shoes to accommodate changes in foot size. It is estimated as much as nine out of ten women are regularly wearing the wrong size shoe. Research based on 2,000 adults found 26 per cent of men and 41 per cent of women say their feet have got larger during their adult life, with nearly half attributing it to putting on weight.
