Toe Job : Salophilia (aka shrimping)

Salophilia describes sexuo-erotic arousal from tasting salty body fluids such as perspiration. The term is frequently confused with saliromania, meaning sexual arousal from being ‘dirty.’ This takes many from dirty talk to ‘golden showers’; from making love wearing dirty clothes to covering each other in all kinds of edible or inedible substances. The most extreme form of salirophilia is probably the eating of excrements (also known as 'coprophilia').

In antiquity, human perspiration, blood and urine, were all thought to have magical qualities and perspiration made up an important ingredient in love potions and spells. A typical example was reported by Love (1995), where a man thought to be under the spell of an enchantress would commission a potion to reverse the magic. This involved a new pair of shoes worn out with walking. For the spell to work the man drank wine from the right shoe. The alcohol would naturally mix with sweat from his foot and may have given the drinker a thrill. Either way this reversed the spell and caused the man to feel hate toward his enchantress.

During the Belle Epoch it became common place to drink Champagne from the slipper of a female companion. Salophiliacs, would have found this especially pleasurable especially since the foot was considered extremely risqué and the naked foot all the more so.

In S&M enjoyment from licking the skin may be enhanced by the taste of salt from the skin which would have particular appeal to a salopholiac.

In modern times the most infamous case of toe sucking (aka shrimping) involved Sarah, Duchess of York and an amorous encounter conveniently caught on camera by the paparazzi in 1992.
