Shoe shaped church, Chiayi, Taiwan

In Chiayi, Taiwan there is, under construction a giant blue building in the shape of a high-heeled shoe. It is not a museum it is a church dedicated to honour the victims of blackfoot disease (BFD) who suffered leg amputations as a result of the severe peripheral vascular disease (PVD), in which the blood vessels in the lower limbs become progressively damaged, resulting eventually in gangrene. (BFD) (or Arsenicosis) is caused by exposure to arsenic through drinking-water and is an endemic confined to the southwestern coast of Taiwan.

The church which is still under construction and was specifically commissioned to honor the women who had suffered black foot disease with subsequent leg amputations.
