Alexandria's shoe tree a safety hazard

Alexandria’s popular “shoe tree” was a local landmark and with residents throwing their shoes over the towering catalpa tree as way to free their soles and take a new step in life. No one is sure how it all started but it was a popular focal point and has run foul of a community improvement plan to “beautify and rejuvenate” the area. The Township of North Glengarry, Ontario have now designated the shoes a safety hazard, and likely to cause damage to their costly snow equipment. Seems there are plans afoot, to remove the footwear and rob the local of their tree of shoes.
