Woden's North Sea Collection: : Fish skin trainers
Woden are launching an eco-friendly “fish leather” collection for spring 17. The new North Sea Collection are made from completely natural materials, including “fish leather”, a natural byproduct of the Icelandic fishing industry.
The lightweight material is made from fish skin, and according to the manufacturer, is ten times stronger than regular cows’ leather. The collection comprises 10 different designs, and fish leather from cod and salmon is incorporated into the trainers.
In centuries passed when Icelandic footwear was commonly made from fish skins. Travelers regularly measured distance by the pairs of shoes they needed to complete their journey. When the soles of one pair wore through, they merely boiled their old shoes and ate them.
