“Shoes! Glorious Shoes!” : The Benzonia Academy Lecture

The Benzonia Academy Lecture this year is “Shoes! Glorious Shoes!” by Nancy Bordine and starts at 4 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Benzie Area Historical Museum, 6491 Traverse Ave, Benzonia, MI US. Nancy Bordine is a retired registered nurse, who began collecting vintage shoes and clothing in the 1960s. Since then, she has gathered more than 500 pairs in all categories: men’s and women’s, children’s, work and play, aristocratic and shoes of ethnic origin. The collector said her favorite decade is the 1920s because of the impact WWI and the suffragette movement had on women’s roles and clothing styles. The subject of her talk will be on the history of shoes and the different stories each pair has to tell about their decade and the individual who wore them. The event is free, but donations are encouraged.
