Kyle Schwarber (Chicago Cubs) is a left outfielder and was drifting back to catch the Cardinals’ Matt Carpenter’s sixth-inning fly ball when his shoe gave out and he Schwarber tumbled to the ground. He recovered well and got into a position to make the catch like nothing had gone wrong.
The game at the Busch Stadium then entered a two-minute shoe delay as the outfielder returned to the dug out to get a replacement shoe. St. Louis Cardinals had one runner on base when Schwarber lost his shoe. Unfortunately for the Cubs, their overall struggles would continue in Saturday’s game. They fell to St. Louis 8-6 in 10 innings on Kolton Wong’s walk-off home run. The Cubs have lost four in a row while the Cardinals have won four straight.
